First Annual Joseph Batory Scholarship Awarded at Rowan University

The first annual Joseph Batory Scholarship has been awarded to Tamicha Adams,   an outstanding Educational Leadership Ed.D. student at Rowan University.

Tamicha is a doctoral student with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She is a dedicated higher education professional currently serving as a Senior Academic Advisor in the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)Martin Tuchman School of Management. Previously, she taught the First-Year Student Seminar at NJIT, where she focused on promoting early college success and student engagement. Her background includes extensive work in academic advising and student advocacy across several New Jersey institutions, reflecting her holistic and sustained commitment to student success.

This $8000.00 scholarship  has been personally funded by Joseph Batory and will be repeated for a promising Rowan Educational Leadership student in each year ahead.  This is Joe’s commitment to helping to produce quality leaders into the future.

Joe earned his master’s degree in supervision at curriculum development at Glassboro State College (not yet Rowan University) in 1972.  He believes that that the educational experiences there were a primary factor in launching his award-winning career as a school superintendent.

In July 1992, industrialist Henry Rowan and his wife Betty donated $100 million to the institution, then the largest gift ever to a public college or university. Later that year, the school changed its name to Rowan College of New Jersey to recognize the  generosity of these benefactors. The college achieved University status in 1997 and changed its name to Rowan University.

Since its founding ten decades ago, Rowan University has evolved from a teacher preparation college to a public research institution ranked among the top 100 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Today, Rowan University offers bachelor through doctoral degrees and professional certificates in person and online to 22,000 students through its main campus in Glassboro, N.J., its medical school campuses in Camden, Stratford, and Sewell, and on the campuses of partner community colleges.
